Antelope Canyon & Monument Valley! (Day 5)

Monday, May 29th

Day 5 of our trip and it is finally starting to sink in that we are actually on a month-long road trip. Today, we are headed from Page, Arizona to Moab, Utah. This drive is about 4 hours long, but along the way we will be making some really cool stops.

Our first stop of the day is Antelope Canyon! This is another bucket-list destination that Gustavo and I have dreamed about going to. Antelope Canyon is a long canyon located in Northern Arizona right outside of Page, Arizona. The two most popular parts of this canyon are named Lower Antelope Canyon and Upper Antelope Canyon. These hikes are short, but they are located on Navajo Tribe land. So, in order to see the canyon you have to book a tour through the Navajo Nation. The prices are cheap, we booked ours at $25 a person, and it is well-worth it. We book with Ken’s Tours for Lower Antelope Canyon and we were one of the first hikes out at 8:00 am. The best time to see this part of the canyon is mid-day at around 12:00 pm. However, the 8:00 am start time was perfect for us, as we avoided the crowds and also the heat!

The hike down to the canyon is slightly steep so I wasn’t able to get any photos of the beginning of the trail. And in order to get deep inside the canyon we had to descend 6 flights of steep stairs where no photos are allowed. But, as soon as we got inside the canyon it was photos galore.

Here are a few photos from our walk through Lower Antelope Canyon.

Lower Antelope Canyon is so freakin’ beautiful and the colors will blow your mind. With such natural beauty, I would take this hike again any day!

After finishing the hike at Antelope Canyon our next stop was Monument Valley.

Monument Valley,  Arizona

Monument Valley is a Navajo Tribal Park that is 29,817 square miles of endless geological wonders. Park extends into Arizona and Utah and the height of these monuments range from 100 feet tall all the way up to 1,500 feet. And man can they make you feel tiny.

This  park has a 17 mile dirt road called “Valley Drive” that takes you all through the park and around some of the largest monuments. The drive is really cool and we were able to experience the huge rock monuments up-close. From the valley floor you really get a good sense of the magnitude of the rocks and the orange-red colored sandstone cliffs pop out & you.

After completing the scenic-drive, it was time to head to Moab and prepare for the next day! Here is Gustavo cookin’ up his secret (not-so-secret) recipe at camp.

Today we had to go with our Evrgrn tent since the campsite we stayed at is a walk-up site. However, this is the cutest little campground and we really enjoyed our stay here.
