Aloha from Oahu!

Aloha!

Currently writing from Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii!!!

It has been a while since our last post so here is a quick update. In the past year Gustavo has transitioned from his job at the mall and found a career that he actually really likes. He is working in the construction industry, learning new things everyday, and gets to challenge himself both mentally and physically. As for me, I am still going to school. Really just trying to figure out what my purpose in life is, trying to ‘adult’ (as best as I can), all while trying to achieve Nirvana…. You know, just typical millennial stuff. (Lol) Also! We finally moved out of our parents house. We’re not completely on our own because we are living with my grandma and cousin (s/o to Manny). But we know that everything happens with time AND at the right time. So, for the moment we are definitely enjoying all of those home-cooked meals we get everyday from grams. (Gustavo’s favorite are the Parmesan Tacos!) And I cannot forget the most exciting part: WE GOT ENGAGED!! Gustavo asked the big question on our 10 year anniversary and completely shocked me. A wedding date is to be determined. However, 2020 seems to be calling our name for some reason.

Now, for the exciting stuff. We are sooooo excited to start sharing our amazing adventures again!

We are finally here in Hawaii and cannot wait to experience what these amazing islands have to offer.

Are first day on the Island of Oahu was December 22 and we arrived around 11 AM.

Our Hotel! Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel

The day/night before was really crazy with all the packing, shopping, and just pure excitement for the trip to come. We pulled an all nighter trying to pack. So, by the time that we got all settled in to our hotel we were totally wiped out. We finally woke up from our nap around 5 pm to texts from my sister Sara who had been waiting for us to eat dinner! She lives here in Oahu and we were able to spend some time with her before she left for the mainland. Sara took us to this great restaurant called Shokudo Japanese Restaurant in Honolulu and it was delicious. We also walked around Waikiki and Sara also hooked it up with an entire list of the best hikes, restaurants, and coolest spots to check out on the island. Not only that, she got us a very cool Catamaran boat tour for the following day (more about that to come.) We loved getting to spend time with Sara at her home and cannot wait to checkout all of her recommendations. 💕

Walking around Waikiki with Sara 💕

December 23, 2018: (2nd day on Oahu)

After our introduction day to the area we were ready to start exploring. First up on the itinerary was breakfast. (Basically only mentioning this because I want to share this photo)

Breakfast on our first morning in Waikiki.

After breakfast was the Catamaran and Snorkeling! This was the tour that Sara set up for us and I cannot believe that I almost turned it down. We had SO. Much. Fun. Gustavo loves snorkeling and just being in the water in general so he was having a blast. It was my very first time snorkeling so it took a while to get used to all of the gear. Once I got past the learning curve it was so cool to get to explore the life underwater. One of the highlights was a turtle that came super close to us as it was coming up for water!

There were a lot of other turtles and fishes but they were a little ways below us so they were hard to see at times. However, every once and a while one would come up a little ways and bless us with its beauty. On the way back to the dock we relaxed on the front of the boat and it was so relaxing just watching the waves, wind blowing your face, and taking in the views of Waikiki and the mountains behind it. Absolutely stunning.

After the tour we walked around town a little, grabbed some dinner, and watched that beautiful world-renowned Waikiki sunset. It was a great way to end our day.

Next, we want to explore other areas of the island. Sara blessed us with this amazing list and we are determined to check-off as many things as possible. Stay tuned!

  1. Hope you enjoy your time in Hawaii and congrats on your engagement! My husband I went to Hawaii in July for honeymoon and had an amazing time! We also ate at Shokudo Japanese Restaurant. I have a friend who lives in Honolulu who recommended it to us, and your sister recommended it to you, so it must be a local favorite! Did you try their honey toast?!
