Pearl Harbor & North Shore!

Today we had to opportunity to visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial site.

We were able to learn all about that day on December 7, 1941 and how it drastically changed the course of World War II. On that day, Japan launched an assault on Pearl Harbor Naval Bass on Oahu. Over 2,400 Americans were killed in this attack, both civilians and soldiers. This attack pushed the U.S. into World War II and united Americans like no other event in our history. This amazing site took us on a journey of the events that happened that day and also is a beautiful memorial for those that perished that day.

Gustavo is really into history and loves learning about all of this stuff. So, he knew a lot about the events that took place this day and loved seeing all the battleships and weapons up close and personal. I am not so well-versed in the history department so this tour was really a great eye opener.

For anyone ever on the island of Oahu this is a must-see. As an American, we often take for granted all of the luxuries that we have here in this country. It is the land of the free. However, it does come with a price. A huge thank you to all of those who have served or are currently serving. And may the memory of those who perished on that day in December live on forever. You are greatly appreciated.

After a great educational experience at Pearl Harbor, we headed to the North Shore of Oahu.

This little car was our ride for the remaining of our time on Oahu. We had many jokes about this little thing. However, like Gustavo said “it’s getting us from point A to point B” and we had no problem with it as we drove all over the island.

Our first stop along North Shore was for food! We stopped in Kahului where they have a variety of food trucks. They have everything from shrimp, to coffee & frozen yogurt. It’s really a great stop along the way and we definitely enjoyed our meal. We ate at Kalbi on Fire.

Gustavo couldn’t resist the short ribs & I had the chicken. It was delicious!!! 5 star rating.

Our next stop was Banzai Pipeline. We didn’t stay here long, as we wanted to see as we weren’t sure we would be able to return to the North Shore so we wanted to see as many beaches as we could.

I was hoping to see some huge waves here as this is where they sometimes hold surfing competitions but we were not in luck. However, I did catch some surfers doing their thing.

Next up, was Shark’s cove.

We didn’t bring any swim gear with us, but a lot of people were snorkeling in the tide pools and you could see a lot of little fishes swimming around as well. Also, the waves crashing against the rocks was pretty cool. I’m literally a sucker for shots like these and me and Gustavo didn’t want to leave this spot. We just kept searching for that perfect shot.

Turns out it was actually right behind us. A beautiful rainbow was right behind us the entire time and we didn’t even know it.

Last, but definitely not least was Laniakea Beach. Laniakea beach is popular for being able to view sea turtles and there they were! The cool thing about this place is that they actually have volunteers at the beach at all times making sure that visitors do not get too close to the turtles. There are also rope and signs set up to ensure that tourists are a safe distant away and the sea turtles are feeling comfortable.

We sat here for quite a while just obsessing the turtles and enjoying the beach. It is such a beautiful area and this is how we ended our trip to North Shore as we watched the sun set behind the mountains.

If you have read this far, thank you! We are still trying to figure out exactly what kind of blog we want this to be. But for now, we just enjoy documenting our adventures and sharing the beautiful places we visit with you guys.

Mahalo,

Gustavo & Esper 🌺🤙🏽
